Workplace bullying is an abuse of personal power or official authority. It can humiliate people, destroy confidence, have a detrimental effect on their health, and impact attendance and performance.

Employers not only have a duty to provide a workplace that is free from this type of behaviour, but should also want to encourage a safe working environment for their employees.

As a business owner, you could be held responsible if you do not have the correct measures in place to prevent these kind of behaviours, this is known as 'vicarious liabilty.'

4 ways to contribute towards achieving a workplace free from bullying, harassment and discrimination:

  1. Modelling positive leadership from the top.

  2. Identify and coach (or remove altogether) any perpetrators.

  3. Empower employees to help address the problem.

  4. Hold an effective whistleblowing policy for staff to confidentially report any wrongdoing.

If you need help with writing an internal HR process, or if you have a policy that needs reviewing, why don’t you get in touch to see how I can help?
